Moderation is the center wherein all philosophies, both human and divine, meet.
-- Benjamin Disraeli
I am a moderate. Politically speaking, I was a "shades of grey" guy even before the popular book series. So why am I once again opining in a conservative publication dedicated to providing food for the conservative soul? Barack Obama is why.
This President makes strange bedfellows. This column is meant to provide some food for you conservatives to feed to your moderate friends. No need to feed this to the far left. They've got their candidate.
Barack Obama is far left. Mitt Romney is much closer to the political middle. Look at his record as Governor of Massachusetts and throughout his life. Romney's parents were moderate Republicans. So is he.
Now look at Obama's record as a community organizer in Chicago where his associates included Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers and Rashid Khalidi. Next, look at his performance and colleagues in the White House. Consider the immoderate leftist influences on Obama as he grew up. We will all experience how radical he is if he gets a second term.
The Muslim Brotherhood is not moderate. It was disturbing, yet instructive, when Obama's Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told Congress that the Muslim Brotherhood is a "largely secular" organization about which we need not worry. The rise of the Muslim Brotherhood and its takeover of Egypt is a disaster for America, Israel and the world. Yet this White House forbids utterance of "radical Islam" and jihad.
The Obama administration wants to pretend that radical Islam and jihad do not exist. It calls Army Major Nidal Hasan's atrocity at Fort Hood "workplace violence." This administration wanted to give Khalid Sheikh Mohammed a civilian trial in NYC. This White House lies about Libya rather than acknowledge that organized Islamists killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
I can accept the possibility that the President did not know beforehand about the request for additional diplomatic security in Libya. But every American should damn well expect the President to know what happened right after the 9/11 quadruple murder in Benghazi.
Sadly, well after this White House learned the truth, it made a conscious decision to misdirect blame at an obscure anti-Islam YouTube video, instead of at the perpetrating Islamists. When Mitt Romney spoke out, the President and his media colleagues jumped down his throat. But Mitt was right. America believes in free speech.
Our American pain at the pump is enriching our Islamist enemies and killing our economy. This President's energy plan has been wasteful and counter-productive. I will give Obama this – he wanted to drive "old energy" costs up – and he sure has done so.
Speaking of "old energy," I am 56. I get it that Romney-Ryan will do nothing to my Medicare because I am 55 or older. How old do you have to be to not get that? The traditional Dem scare tactic should not work. The big threat to my Medicare is if Obama-Biden wins. Medicare will be insolvent. We will all get Obamacare.
I am pro-choice. So was Mitt Romney. I am pro gay rights. So was Mitt Romney. You conservatives are deluding yourself if you think that Mitt Romney will prioritize these social conservative positions. The far right did not want Mitt Romney to be the nominee and he is not beholden to them.
Social libertarians would be wise to vote for the presidential candidate (Mitt Romney) who most opposes Shariah law. Gays are executed in the Islamic Republic of Iran. So are adulterers. The clitorises of young girls are mutilated routinely in Islamist societies. Abortion is absolutely forbidden. Free speech goes away. Islamists are ascendant under Obama and if that does not scare you, you are not paying attention.
Moderate people also need to think in practical terms. The Bush tax cuts expire at the end of 2012. Everybody's taxes will go up. Re-elect Obama and stalemate with the GOP controlled House will continue. That will hurt every American. Elect Mitt Romney and a deal will get done. Democrats will have input. A compromise will be reached.
I like bipartisanship. Obama has no capacity for it because his leftist views are so extreme. Some of us who bought the "no red states or blue states" 2004 Obama DNC convention speech now realize we were just hearing good words well delivered off a teleprompter. We have never had a more radical left President.
We also cannot have a President who lies or sanctions lies. 2008 candidate Obama made so many promises he failed to even try to fulfill. He told Hispanics he would give them comprehensive immigration reform, but did not even try to do so, even when he controlled all of government for two years. Obama promised to cut the debt in half. He doubled it instead. He promised to shut Guantanamo, but he did not.
"Dreams from my Father" is so full of falsehoods. Here are two that bother me most. Obama claimed he played little on his high school basketball team because his coach did not like his black style of play. This is refuted by his teammates who reported Obama was among the few players on the team who could not slam dunk.
As exposed by another sympathetic author, this one from the Washington Post, Obama lied when he wrote his mom had to battle for health insurance when she was fighting cancer. Barack Obama makes things up to advance himself and his causes.
If you don't believe me, view the 2007 Hampton College videotape that surfaced in its entirety right before the Denver Debate. It is startling and so revealing. Obama's southern accent was phony. His race-baiting was despicable. If we wanted Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton for President, we could have had that a long time ago. Watch and listen to then Senator Obama's affection for his pal, Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
Let us give the President and Michelle a chance to resume their relationship with the Chicago clergyman who married them and baptized their children. Let's allow the Obamas to join Jimmy Carter in advocating against Israel and for Occupy Wall Street. Just not from the White House any more, please.
