The Country – Not the GOP – is Moving to the Right

Liberal journalists (but I repeat myself) – a fraternity for whom indignation is proof of sentience – recently believed they had found just cause to be aghast once more in the nation’s fourth largest state. Deeming themselves the keepers of political Wisdom, the chattering class bayed at the news that Florida Governor Charlie Crist is leaving the Republican Party to continue his pursuit of a seat in the U.S. Senate as an Independent.
 

The emergence of candidates like Marco Rubio shows that certain quarters of the Republican Party have immunized themselves against the temptation to become what used to be referred to as "Me Too Republicans" -- nominal members of the GOP who genuflect to every statist idea from the left.

The Health Care Summit: the Reality behind the Rhetoric

 During Thursday’s White House health care summit, the President stated his intent to focus on the areas of health reform where Democrats and Republicans agreed. The President also asked the summit participants to put away their usual political talking points and to refrain from partisan attacks.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid like to criticize the Republicans as the “party of no” vacant of any ideas worthy of serious consideration. Syndicated columnist George Will disagrees and thinks Paul Ryan is at least one good source. Will has been critiquing the idea vacuum on Capitol Hill for almost 40 years. As infrequent as a good idea happens in Washington, he knows one when he sees it.
