Mullahs Play UN, America for Fools - Again

The global media was all a flutter just last week with the announcement that Iran had agreed in principal with a deal to ship their uranium to Russia for enrichment, and then have it returned for peaceful purposes – energy production. Some of us were skeptical, but the liberal mass media was proclaiming the deal as a bold “breakthrough” in the new world order of hope ushered in by Nobel Peace Prize winning Barack Obama.

The agreement was celebrated by starry eyed diplomats who foolishly believe that any deal is a good deal with radical Islamists regardless of their regular reaffirmation of “death to America, death to Israel.” Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said the dealcould open the way for a complete normalization of relations between Iran and the International community.”

The deal at best would delay by a little Iran’s ability to get a nuke. Maybe not even that. But, kicking the can down the road rather than eliminating the threat is what diplomats seem want to do – especially diplomats filled with hope. Anyone that really believes Iran is willing to give up their obsession for the bomb under any conditions should be taking orders at a fast-food drive through, not negotiating treaties with terrorists.

Sure enough, within hours of the announcement of the “breakthrough” the Mullahs in Tehran were playing bait-and-switch, and signaling their official answer to the Russian uranium swap idea would be an emphatic “Nyet.” ElBaradei and friends, including the U.S. were played for fools again and they took the bait. As the Wall Street Journal editorialized , “One sign that an adversary isn't serious about negotiating is when it rejects even your concessions…The mullahs so far won't take yes for an answer.”

After repeatedly scoffing at UN resolutions, and thumbing their nose at the international community, you have to wonder when world leaders, including the Americans, will wake up. The editors at Investor’s Business Daily put it this way:

“How can a theocratic government with a stone-age worldview take the most sophisticated, modern, industrialized nation in the world for a ride, as if we just fell off the turnip truck?” “Because those who run Iran realize they are engaged in a global war. Those who now run American foreign policy, on the other hand, think "war on terror" is passe. Peace must be given a chance first, they think. And "yes, we can" make it work, without firing a shot. Hope will triumph.” “Sounds nice, doesn't it? But it is the naivete of Neville Chamberlain and the piece of paper he waved bearing Hitler's autograph.”
