Politico.com asked....

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

“President Barack Obama heads to Scranton, Pa., Wednesday to promote a $265 billion expansion of the payroll tax break set to expire at the end of the year.  To pay for it he’s pushing a new 3.25 percent surtax on millionaires.  Congressional Republicans say they want it extended as well, but not unless it’s paid for.  Democrats say a lapse would mean middle-income taxpayers would lose about $1,200 annually in take home pay.   Which side has the winning argument here?”

Kagan: Mesmerized by "rock star" qualities of Barack Obama

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

In 2005, Elena Kagan was the Dean of the Harvard Law School and Barack Obama was a freshman US Senator.  Obama visited Harvard to speak to a Law School luncheon.  Below is a link to the introduction given by Kagan in which she volunteers that she is already quite "political."  So much so that she attended every session of the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston where she was "mesmerized" when Obama simply "opened his mouth (and)said a few words."  Kagan attributes Obama's supernatural qualities to the "rock star qualities he has: the eloquence, the magnetism, the great looks, the brilliance..."

Washington Examiner: Kagan should recuse herself from Obamacare deliberations

Tuesday, November 29, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

Over the last several weeks we have written repeatedly about the need for Elena Kagan to recuse herself from the ObamaCare case scheduled to be heard early in 2012 by the Supreme Court. (Articles here) We have been encouraged by the growing public pressure for Justice Kagan to do the right thing and stand down. Joining the chorus is the Washington Examiner. Following is an excerpt from today's feature editorial and a link to the full text.

Oil and Gas Boom: Obama keeps trying to kill it, but it just won’t stay dead

Monday, November 28, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

Moratoriums, permitting bans, cancelling leases, Wild Land designations, EPA regulations on steroids, and tens of billions in DOE loans and subsidies for the alternative green energy industry…..the Obama Administration has done everything in their considerable power to strangle America’s oil and gas industry to death, but it just refuses to die.  In fact, it seems to be stronger than ever.

CBO: Stimulus will be a “net drag on the economy"

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

Confirming what most thinking Americans already knew, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says Obama’s $800 billion Obama sustained at best only 20% of the jobs the President promised and because of the burden of all the accumulated debt it will actually become a “drag on the economy.”  Read full article here

Was it really a Super Failure?

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

More than the curious “lead from behind” strategy often preferred by Barack Obama, an apt description of his efforts to steer the Super Committee to an acceptable conclusion would best be described as “in absentia.”  Both Republicans and Democrats noted with disappointment the President’s absence in a challenge that was always thought to be difficult at best – even doomed, in the opinion of many experienced Congressional observers.

Solyndra Workers awarded $14.3 million in Government Aid Package

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

Like a wound that won’t stop bleeding, the cost to taxpayers for the collapse of Solyndra continues to grow.  The Labor Department announced yesterday that the 1100 workers who lost jobs as a result of the failure of the California solar energy company would be eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance amounting to $14.3 million.  TAA is a federal aid package that includes job retraining and income assistance valued at $13,000 for each laid off worker.   The collapse of Solyndra left taxpayers on the hook for a $535 million government guaranteed loan and blew open an still unfolding scandal involving top DOE and White House officials.  Read more here

Pelosi: Catholics have “this conscience thing”

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 | By Bob Beauprez

Nancy Pelosi frequently likes to remind us that she is a “devout Catholic,” yet she continually finds herself at odds with Catholic doctrine particularly as it relates to innocent human life.  The Church has long defended the right for health care providers to refuse to perform abortions or provide contraception devices and procedures as a right of conscience under First Amendment protections.  As part of the Democrats’ seizure of the health care industry with ObamaCare, Pelosi led the charge to attack the “Conscience Clause” protections originating in 1973 immediately following the Roe v. Wade decision, updated repeatedly over the years by Congress, and further clarified and strengthened in 2008 during the Bush Administration.
