New Jersey loves their New Gov

Last November Republican Chris Christie pulled off an amazing victory defeating incumbent Governor Jon Corzine in the traditionally heavily Democrat New Jersey. After a brutal and expensive dog fight, Christie’s approval rating was actually upside down (41:44) with voters.  He campaigned promising to clean up political corruption and to make the difficult state budget decisions required to balance the state’s budget, “warning residents of the painful measures he would have to impose to bring New Jersey back from the brink of financial ruin.”  Politicians always make campaign promises; too often they forget them before being inaugurated.  Not this one.

Christie took office on January 19, and shortly after started hacking away at government by terminating, reducing, or delaying spending consistent with his campaign promises.  Politicians resist cutting government programs, services, and salaries because they fear a voter backlash.  Not everything is painless,” Christie admitted, but it needed to be done.

New Jerseyans apparently agree with the new Governor.  A new poll indicates Christie enjoys a 3:1 job approval rating.   Clearly voters understand government is out of control, and they are looking for leaders willing to fix the problem.
