What to make of WikiLeaks

The release of more than 90,000 secret documents by the anti-war group WikiLeaks related to the Afghanistan war has consequences for the security and success of our war fighters, and significant political challenges for an Obama Administration already struggling to maintain support for its overall agenda.

Obama insists that the security breach “doesn’t reveal any issues that haven’t already informed our debate on Afghanistan.”  Maybe, but a large portion of his previously blindly loyal followers immediately got weak knees.  Within hours of the release of the sensitive documents, 102 House Democrats voted against Obama’s request for Afghanistan war funding.

George Friedman, founder and CEO of STRATFOR, has written a fine analysis of the ramifications of the document disclosure as well as the enormously complex Afghanistan war.  Click here for Friedman’s thorough piece.
