Obama ideology blocking energy independence

This morning, the Washington Times ran a column by A Line of Sight's editor-in-chief Bob Beauprez on the administration's failure to not only protect America's national security but also grow the economy:

"Historians will be perplexed when they look back at America’s first years in the 21st century. They will see a country rich in natural resources, populated by people possessing great intellect and technological prowess, and an administration that could have dug the United States out of a jobless economic recovery but was immobilized by ideology."

Tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve: A Precedence of Shameless Re-Election Politicking

I was asked by the National Journal to weigh in on the following question for their Energy & Environment blog:

"What precedent is this administration setting by tapping into the reserves at a time of ongoing unrest in the Middle East and seemingly sustained high oil prices?"

Here is my answer:

Precedence?  You ask what precedent the administration is setting by tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for only the third time in our nation's history?  I'll tell you.  They are setting a precedent as easily the most blatantly political administration ever in American history.
