Good News of the Month: Cape Verde - Something Good Happening in Africa

Monday, February 20, 2012 | By Bob Beauprez

Too often it seems that any news coming from the African continent is bad. Famine, disease, tribal warfare, abject poverty, political and economic turmoil, warlords and dictators, – the list of challenges and problems is long and overwhelmingly discouraging. Much of the worst news of late is linked to the influence of radical Islamic sects like the Muslim Brotherhood and the overthrow of Mubarak in Egypt and Gaddafi in Libya. Radical Arab influence is prevalent throughout much of northern Africa and is at the root of much of the extended tragedies in Sudan.

Monday, January 16, 2012 | By A Line of Sight

One year ago in Tucson a mentally deranged man walked into a citizen forum hosted in a parking lot by Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and opened fire. Moments later, six people were dead and at least a dozen wounded including Giffords who took a shot to her head.

Good News for the Month: Out of the Mouths of Babes!

Tuesday, December 20, 2011 | By A Line of Sight

Each month in this space we so our best to find a suitable story or event that inspires hope and lifts the spirit. A cousin of my wife living on the east coast provided this month's offering that is particularly appropriate for the Christmas season. For our non-Christian friends, please don't take offense at the message, but rather use it as a reminder that we all need to at least occasionally pause and reflect on what really matters most in life and the blessings we have all been given.

Good News (maybe): Congress looks to block defense cuts if Super Committee fails

Monday, November 14, 2011 | By A Line of Sight

As time runs out for the Super Committee of twelve House and Senate Members to strike a deal to reduce the federal deficit by $1.5 trillion, there is growing concern that failure by the committee would trigger a sequestration (automatic cut) of $600 billion or more at the Defense Department. This would be on top of $850 billion in cuts over a decade already announced by the Obama Administration, including cancelling 50 weapons programs, as national security expert Peter Brookes explained recently on these pages.

Good News of the Month: GOP's Turner wins NY-9

Monday, September 19, 2011 | By A Line of Sight

A 70 year old retired conservative Catholic won a special congressional election in a 3-to-1 Democrat district that is 40% Jewish. Not since 1922 has a Republican won the district that includes part of Queens and Brooklyn in New York City. The race was seen as a national referendum on Barack Obama and the Democrat agenda, and bodes for a very uphill battle for the incumbent President and Democrat House and Senate members seeking re-election in fourteen months.

Good News: Courts come through with back-to-back-to-back Home Runs

Monday, August 15, 2011 | By A Line of Sight

The various courts and activist judges across America certainly give us plenty to fret about, but in just the last week three separate federal courts rendered decisions to give conservatives plenty to cheer about and give the Obama Administration and the "progressive" left a bad case of heart burn. All three decisions have enormous ramifications and strike a blow for freedom and common-sense, so we think that qualifies as the Good News for the month of August.

Good News of the Month: CAIR loses tax-exempt status

Monday, July 18, 2011 | By A Line of Sight

At first blush you might think that an organization that the federal government considers an unindicted co-conspirator in a terrorism plot wouldn't also get most favored tax-exempt status by the IRS, but that's exactly what CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations enjoyed until recently.
