Inspector General finds $500 million wasted training for “green jobs”

Bob Beauprez - Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Financially troubled companies like Solyndra, Beacon Power, and Ener1 were not the only places Obama was squandering hundreds of millions of dollars in his greening-of-America quest.  The Administration earmarked $500 million (about the same as taxpayers lost on Solyndra) for a “green jobs training” program.  It looks like that’s been a big failure, too.

The Inspector General at the Department of Labor has informed Congress that after 17 months only 8,035 trained workers had jobs.  That’s barely 10 percent of what Obama had estimated would be the results by now.  Not surprisingly, the IG’s report contains a recommendation to pull the plug on the training program and recover what might remain of unspent dollars.  However, the Administration is defending the program and the results.  More here.
