President Obama has been talking a lot about income equality and fairness lately. In his State of the Union speech he called it “the defining issue of our time.” Thanks to a little investigative work by the Congressional Budget Office, the President doesn’t have to look very far for a place to start.
Yesterday the CBO reported that federal government workers are compensated 16 percent more than comparable private-sector workers on average. In fact, for those with only a high-school degree, the government paid them 21 percent more in wages and 72 percent more in benefits than private sector counterparts.
Obama’s solution: his 2013 budget will reportedly call for another salary increase for federal employees, and he wants to raise taxes to pay for it. Full story here.
