Au Revoir France

Wednesday, May 23, 2012 | By Bob Beauprez

In the recent French presidential election, Nicolas Sarkozy was narrowly defeated by Francois Hollande.  Faced with a similar financial crisis as much of Europe and raging unemployment, Sarkozy had championed cutbacks in government spending, but Hollande had promised even more government largesse, "Austerity can no longer be inevitable!" he declared in his Sunday night victory speech.

Another ObamaCare Debacle: Small Business not Biting at Tax Credit Incentive

Tuesday, May 22, 2012 | By Bob Beauprez

The Affordable Care Act – aka: ObamaCare – contained an "incentive" for Small Business Owners who did not provide health care insurance for their employees to add the benefit.  Like much of the rest of the legislation that the Democrats just had to pass so we could find out what was in it, that provision appears to be yet another bust.

White House to Spend $20 million to Pitch ObamaCare

Tuesday, May 22, 2012 | By Bob Beauprez

Ever since the Democrats passed ObamaCare "so we could find out what's in it," Americans have overwhelmingly said they didn't like the new law.  Now, the Obama Administration is spending $20 million of taxpayer money on a new public relations campaign to try to sell us, yet again, on this unprecedented intrusion into our lives by legislation that 72% of Americans believe violates the Constitution.

Tuesday, May 15, 2012 | By Bob Beauprez

Mitt Romney stopped off in Colorado last week to talk about getting the economy going again and the importance of affordable domestic energy production in his plans to make that happen. He made himself available to some members of the media, providing local reporters with an increasingly rare opportunity to spend a moment with the man who may well be the next President of the United States.

The Europization of America

Sunday, May 13, 2012 | By Bob Beauprez

As millions of citizens become ever more desperate, they do what they must to survive.   That's understandable, and the depth and prolonged nature of the current economic mess has pushed millions of Americans onto government assistance that previously would have never considered even asking for help.  Some of the trends are startling.  They raise questions both about the proper role of government and fiscal limitations, but they  also raise the issue of whether there has been a change in the character of the once staunchly self-reliant, independent, personally responsible American citizen.

George Will on the ObamaCare Medical Device Tax

Thursday, May 10, 2012 | By Bob Beauprez

Among the plethora of new taxes, penalties and fees buried inside the ObamaCare legislation is a 2.3 percent surtax on "gross revenue" – not net profit, but gross revenue – of medical device manufacturers.   George Will in his regular column in the Washington Post does an excellent job of explaining why this is a jobs killing and entrepreneur limiting tax.  Worse, offers real examples of how the pending tax is already limiting production of medical equipment.
